Let's see what's new in social media this week with, Christian Karasiewicz, Phil Gerbyshak and guest, Christine Gritmon Social Chatter: Social Media Marketing Talk Show - Episode 190 Facebook Appointment Booking In Facebook news, they are launching Facebook appointment booking for Pages, as well as Instagram appointment booking. On your Facebook Page, you can now include appointment bookings. With this new tool, if you're a service-based business on Facebook and Instagram, you can now "accept and manage appointments, customer information and send appointment reminders" from your phone. Here's a look at how Facebook appointment booking works. Facebook appointment booking Why Facebook Appointment Booking Matters For Your Business Previously, you could add appointment booking to your Facebook Page if you used a third-party tool such as Shortstack or Leadpages. Now you can add appointments to your service-based business. This is an important update for businesses because it means you'll have new opportunities to generate revenue from your Facebook Page. In addition to letting you use Facebook appointment booking from mobile, once you set it up, you can see it on your Facebook Page on desktop as well. To add Facebook appointment booking, take a look at this week's episode of Social Chatter where we demoed setting up appointment booking. You can read more about Facebook appointment booking here. Facebook Video Ranking Updates Also in Facebook news this week, they began making video ranking updates Essentially, Facebook is updating three factors that impact your video ranking on Facebook. These include loyalty and intent, video and viewing duration and originality. Videos that bring in repeat viewers will receive more weight. In addition, if people view your video content longer, this will lead to more weight in this area. Lastly, Facebook is focusing on original content. If your videos are unoriginal or repurpose content from other sources, it won't receive much weight. Facebook is also going to "demote video content from Pages that are involved in sharing schemes." Why Facebook Video Ranking Updates Matter For Your Business It's clear that Facebook wants your business to share video content. At the same time, they want to reward content creators who publish high-quality, original content, that engages viewers. As a business owner, you shouldn't have a tough time coming up with content (if you focus on your products and with building a loyal following). Facebook has laid out the Facebook video ranking changes. What you need to do now is to begin to develop a strong social media strategy. This way you can have a plan for the video content that you are creating. This way you can take advantage of the new Facebook video ranking updates they have rolled out. You can read the announcement about Facebook video ranking updates here. In Testing: YouTube Shoppable Ads In YouTube news, they are testing YouTube shoppable ads. Shoppable ads are showing up in YouTube ads as well as in Google ads. These new ads are a new ad unit for YouTube videos. Product prices and recommendations will show up on YouTube, which link back to Google Express. Why YouTube Shoppable Ads Matter For Your Business Google generates a significant amount of their revenue from ads. They also have competition from Facebook, among others. By adding YouTube shoppable ads and Google image search ads, it should make it easier for your business to sell more products to people who are searching on Google or viewing YouTube videos. While YouTube stoppable ads are still being tested, if your products aren't available yet on Google Express, now would be a good time to start to add them there. This way if shoppable ads are launched, your business will be ready. You can read more about YouTube shoppable ads here. In Testing: Instagram Join Chat Stickers For Stories In Instagram news, they are testing join chat stickers in Stories. Instagram is testing a join chat sticker for Stories. Why Instagram Join Chat Stickers Matter For Your Business Are you looking to be more creative on Instagram? There is certainly no shortage of sticker options, now that there might be a "join chat sticker." If you're seeing low engagement on your Instagram Stories content, using the join chat stickers may be a good way to help you interact with your followers. Remember, it's not always about trying to make a sale the first time you meet someone. If Instagram launches the join chat stickers for Stories, spend time getting to know more about your followers. This can help lead to future business for you. You can read more about the join chat stickers for Instagram Stories here. Add GIFs In Twitter Retweets In Twitter news, you can now add GIFs to Twitter retweets. Exciting news: Today we are launching the ability to Retweet with GIF, photos, and video! We find solutions to many challenges as we build for a global, vocal audience. Here is a glimpse into our process as we worked on this feature. https://t.co/PUMr9DRQ0K— Twitter Engineering (@TwitterEng) May 6, 2019 Why Adding GIFs To Twitter Retweets Matters For Your Business Sometimes you want to respond with humor. That isn't always easy with just a text tweet. By adding the ability for your business to use GIFs in Twitter retweets, you can vary the way you respond to your followers. To add a GIF to a Twitter retweet, simply click on the retweet button from the web version of Twitter. You will now see an option to add an animated GIF to your response. Remember, use GIFs sparingly. They work for some businesses, but not all. If you're not sure how you would use them in your industry, consider looking at competitors or major brands to see how they use them and whether you can incorporate animated GIFs in your retweets. You can read more about using GIFs in retweets here. Google To Index Podcasts, Return Audio In SERPs Another big update this week came from Google. They are going to start to index podcasts and return the audio results in SERPs. Google is going to start indexing podcasts and return audio results in SERPs. That means voice answers are going to be direct clips from audio content at some point soon.— Dr. Pete Meyers (@dr_pete) May 7, 2019 Why Google Indexing Podcasts In SERPS Matters For Your Business You may not understand SERPS or search engine results pages. The bottomline is that if your business has a podcast, voice answers are going to be clips from audio content. What this means is that not only can you have blog content and video surface when users search Google, but you can also have your audio come back as a result. This is great news for you because if you're already publishing written content, it would make sense to start to convert it to audio. This way you can help Google to bring it up for users. This feature isn't yet available, but it should be very soon.
