Let's see what's new in social media this week with, Christian Karasiewicz, Phil Gerbyshak and guest, Arjun Rai. Social Chatter: Social Media Marketing Talk Show - Episode 204 Facebook Group Privacy Changes In Facebook news, they are making Facebook Group privacy changes to make them more simple and easy to understand. New Facebook Group privacy changes in 2019 - public and private groups. In an effort to make Facebook Groups easier to use, Facebook is simplifying them. You'll still have public and private groups.. What is changing is that they are separating the privacy settings. For example, Groups can be public and visible to others in search. Alternatively, you can make Facebook Groups private and visible or not visible (hidden) to others. When Facebook Group privacy settings are changed, group members will always be notified according to Facebook. Why New Facebook Group Privacy Settings Matter For Your Business Facebook Group privacy settings have been confusing to some users. By making them more intuitive, you'll be able to better understand your Group privacy and who can and cannot see your group. While you won't have closed or secret Groups (these were already hard to grasp for some), you'll still be able to make them visible or hidden if it's a private group or visible for public groups. While this is a small update, it's a big improvement because now you'll be able to better understand your Facebook Group privacy settings for your business and who can and cannot see the group, what they post and find the group in Facebook search results. You can read the announcement about Facebook Group privacy setting changes here. Spark AR On Instagram In Instagram news, they're rolling out Spark AR on Instagram. This will allow you to use augmented reality to create Spark AR effects on Instagram. These include effects and custom face filters. Spark AR will let you use augmented reality to create Instagram effects without any coding. Why Spark AR On Instagram Matters For Your Business If you've ever wanted to create your own effects, you needed to be a coder. With Spark AR on Instagram, now anyone can create their own effects and then preview them with the separate Spark AR Player app for iOS and Android. For example, you can use Spark AR to make your own branded effects to include face filters, apparel and more to showcase your brand. If you want to give Spark AR on Instagram a try, you can download the desktop and mobile apps here. You can read the announcement about Facebook's Spark AR here. New Facebook Special Ad Categories Also in Facebook news, they are rolling out Facebook Special Ad categories. Special ad categories include areas such as credit opportunities (credit card offers, auto loans, personal or business loan services and more), employment opportunities (part or full-time jobs, internships, professional certification programs, promotions, etc), housing opportunities (listings for sale, rental of a home or apartment, homeowners insurance, mortgage insurance, home equity, etc) and more. When you use these new categories when running Facebook Ads, the audience selection tools will be limited to help protect people on Facebook from unlawful discrimination. Why Facebook Special Ad Categories Matter For Your Business While Facebook special ad categories will remove some targeting options for ads (lookalike audiences are included) that you plan to run, this will help protect your business from discriminating against someone. Keep in mind, credit, employment and housing opportunities are just some of the special ad categories as well. These are just some examples. If you want to give Spark AR on Instagram a try, you can download the desktop and mobile apps here. You can read the announcement about Facebook special ad categories here. In Testing: Twitter Reply Subscriptions In Twitter news, they are testing Twitter reply subscriptions. This new feature will allow you to subscribe to a tweet's replies. This way you can be notified when there is a new reply. Why Twitter Reply Subscriptions Matter For Your Business You're likely very busy and don't have time to go back and check if someone replied to a tweet that you're interested in. With Twitter reply subscriptions, you can keep up with new replies on a particular tweet. This way you can either respond to it (if it's for your business). If it's a tweet where you're helping someone, you can be sure to stay on-top of any new replies without having to constantly stop and check. Keep in mind that this feature is being tested. We'll update you if it is launched. To learn more about Twitter reply subscriptions, click here.
