Social Chatter: Social Media Marketing Talk Show - Episode 254 Updated TikTok Community Guidelines, Should Marketers Care? Are you using TikTok for business? Are you making sure that you are following their community guidelines? This way you don't get your account suspended. This week, TikTok updated the TikTok community guidelines. Are you violating any of them? The updates to the 2020 TikTok community guidelines include bans on deepfakes (replacing a person in an existing photo or video with someone else's likeness), expanding fact-checks and handling misinformation on elections on the platform. According to TikTok, they are cracking down on spam, impersonation and misleading information and encourage creating and sharing original content. Content that is intended to deceive or mislead any of our community members endangers our trust-based community. We do not allow such content on our platform. This includes activities such as spamming, impersonation, and disinformation campaigns. #TikTok updates community guidelines, to ban deepfakes, expand fact-checks and flag election misinformation.#SocialChatter #SocialMedia #TikTokNews https://t.co/AaEjAIA14U pic.twitter.com/yyYwYp8T7G— Social Chefs (@socialchefs) August 7, 2020 Why Updated TikTok Community Guidelines Matter For Your Business While TikTok views can seem inflated at times with some accounts having millions or followers and views, TikTok seems to be working on improving this with their new community guidelines. A few of the key areas, deepfakes, and election misinformation seem to be heavy topics that all social media platforms will likely focus on soon. TikTok is getting ahead of these areas before they become mainstream. As a business, you want to always try and follow the community guidelines for the platform you are using. Imagine building a sizeable audience, only to have TikTok notify you that you are violating their community standards? The best thing you can do is to review their terms of use (even bookrmark them) and look over them occassionally to see if you need to update your TikTok strategy.
