Let's see what's new in social media this week with, Christian Karasiewicz, Sara Munro, and guest, Scott Ayres. Social Chatter: Social Media Marketing Talk Show - Episode 313 Instagram TV, Replacing IGTV (Sort of) This week, we're talking about Instagram TV or Instagram Television. Over the years, Instagram has been building out IGTV. They launched ways to monetize Instagram TV, save IGTV videos and run IGTV ads. They even got people to make the switch from shooting landscape to portrait videos. But things are changing. Users were extremely slow to adopt IGTV - that could be because it was more of an afterthought around the Instagram experience. You can do some pretty creative things with vertical videos. Here's what is changing for Instagram TV. The IGTV app is now called Instagram TV. They're also losing the exclusive IGTV format. Videos can now run up to 60 minutes long. Aside from this, not a whole lot is changing, yet. #Instagram is getting rid of IGTV (sort of) and rebranding it as "Instagram TV".Notes: Videos in the main Instagram feed run up to 60 min. You no longer have to leave the main app to view them.#SocialChatter #SocialMedia #SocialMediaNews #InstagramNews https://t.co/4o26ZnNzJc pic.twitter.com/xcHJXBe1dc— Social Chefs (@socialchefs) October 5, 2021 Why Instagram TV Matters For Your Business Instagram TV will now let you post videos that are 60 minutes. They'll now be available in the main Instagram feed as well. While there aren't a lot of changes on the surface, what we think might happen is that Instagram TV will take on YouTube at some point in the future. This change seems to be setting Instagram up for success for longterm success. As a business, while videos will still be in portrait mode (who watches long videos in portrait mode)? If IGTV was an afterthought, you should consider revisiting it and begin creating longer videos for "the gram". Instagram clearly plans to do much more with Instagram TV at some point (hopefully soon). Your business should be ready, if Instagram is the social media platform where your customers are spending their time.
