Podcasting For Small Businesses We spoke with Ash Borland about podcasting. Here are some tips that he shared. What types of businesses should have a podcast? Podcasting works well for B2B. There is a faster return on B2B over B2C, but you should still consider starting a podcast. They’re experts in the industry and it helps a business establish themselves as a go-to person in their network. B2B is not going to have the biggest numbers, but it has the best return. Can you share some tips on starting a podcast? Is it difficult? If you’re looking to start a podcast, develop the concept of your show. Data is showing that the majority of people will go back and listen to past episodes. Make sure you have the concept down, a clear format, and what your overall goals are. When you know that, you can execute from episode 1 through 100. When things follow the same train of thought, it is easier for your listeners to follow along. Are there topics that work better for a podcast versus a video? Every podcast should have a video podcast. YouTube offers great discoverability. Making a video podcast is very simple. Not using it is foolish. Video podcasting is going to become the rule. Distribution is key to get traction with a podcast, what are some ways a business can distribute their podcast and increase its exposure? There are three steps to producing a podcast. First, produce the podcast. Second, don’t just upload your podcast to a directory. You need to upload to a podcast host. This is where your podcast lives. Third, tools such as Captivate, then distribute your content to the directories and create a micro-site for your podcast, which you can promote and increase exposure for your show.
