Social Chatter: Social Media Marketing Talk Show - Episode 342 Updates to LinkedIn Community Policies For Professionals This week, we're taking a look at updates and enhancements to LinkedIn community policies, as a way to keep the platform safe, and trusted for professionals. In an effort to make the platform a more safe place for business professionals, LinkedIn announced updated policies. As part of our updated policies, we’re publishing a set of expanded resources for members to better understand our policies and how we apply them, including detailed examples of content that isn’t allowed and how we handle account restrictions. While harassment, hate speech, and other abusive content has never been allowed on LinkedIn, we’ve added what types of comments and behaviors go against our Professional Community Policies. They highlight three core principles. Be safe. Be trustworthy. Be professional. With these updates to their community policies, LinkedIn is making it more clear what you can't do on their platform. Here is a look at a breakdown of these policy updates. #LinkedIn has updated their community policies. LinkedIn is basically spelling out what they don't want users to do on their platform. While suggestions not to share false or misleading content, being hateful, posting harassing content, and so on seem like obvious things to avoid sharing on the social media channel, some users still need to be reminded. One thing to remember as a business owner, or future business owner, is to abide by LinkedIn's new community policies. Otherwise you could lose access to the platform, which could make it hard for you to connect with industry professionals and grow your business. Here are tips that she shared. Seasonal Content Planning: When to Start, How to Choose What Trends to Work With Start early. You should always be thinking strategically. It doesn't mean you have to act right then and there, but begin to think about the campaigns you want to roll out throughout the year. For example, if you're preparing for the Fall, begin to think about current marketing trends 3 to 6 months in advance. Don't wait until the season is upon you. You can start by taking photos of items you may want to use in your social media posts, or begin to gather ideas that inspire you. If you wait too long, you'll miss the season because you've just started planning, versus having started early in the process. One example of this is Pumpkin Spice Latte. We know it comes out every Fall. If you want to leverage this in your marketing, start gathering photos and other forms of media like videos and begin putting a plan together in the Summer. When the Fall rolls around, you'll be ready to launch your campaign and capitalize on it in your business. What is the biggest opportunity for individuals and brands on social media in 2022? The biggest opportunity that I see for brands is to be building relationships with their fans and followers and to lean into the power of community to help create content for you. By truly taking the time to invest in and share user-generated content, being responsive to messages and featuring employees, brands have an ability to be more human than ever before and by doing so, create a genuine connection to their audience.
