Welcome to this week’s episode of Social Chatter where we cover the latest social media news from this past week.
Each episode of Social Chatter is available as a blog post or video.
Let’s see what’s cooking in social media this week with your hosts, Christian Karasiewicz and Vincent Orleck!
Watch This Week’s Social Media Updates
Twitter First View Ads
This week, Twitter rolled out First View Ads.
With Twitter First View Ads, you'll be get premium placement with maximum reach.
"First View helps marketers achieve significant audience reach with exclusive ownership of Twitter’s most valuable advertising real estate for a 24-hour period. When users first visit the Twitter app or log in to twitter.com, the top ad slot in the timelines will be a Promoted Video from that brand. Now, marketers can tell a powerful visual story across the Twitter audience."
Right now, First View Ads will focus only on promoting compelling and engaging video content.
Pinterest Promoted Pins Available for All SMBs
Previously, you needed a large budget in order to use Pinterest promoted pins.
This week, Pinterest announced promoted pins for everyone.
This is great news if you're a small business owner because now you can run promoted pins regardless of your budget. And that's a good thing!
"Advertisers who use the Pinterest Ads Manager received an average of 20% more (free) clicks in the month after the start of a Promoted Pins campaign."
To get started, check out this guide.
Instagram Testing Algorithm Changes
Also this week was an announcement from Instagram. They announced changes to your news feed.
"The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order."
If your business uses Instagram a lot, you'll want to make sure you are engaged with your audience. This way they see your updates over other Instagram accounts they might be following.
Facebook Profile Pic Frames
Another announcement this week comes from Facebook.
They’ve announced Facebook Profile Pic frames.
With Facebook Profile Pic frames, you'll be able to add a frame to your profile photo to show your love for your favorite sports team (NBA, MLB, NFL, more) as well as your favorite player and so on.
To create your own profile pic frames, go here.
From a business perspective, if you're connected with your customers and clients, you can keep an eye on their profile photo and then do something nice for them because you know something about them that they like.
For example, if you notice they like a certain sports team, you might want to send them a gift or create a visual to thank them for being a great customer.
Tools
In addition to sharing the latest in social media news from this past week, we also highlighted some great tools and apps to check out.
Crate for Buffer
Crate for Buffer is a tool to help you curate social media content.
With Crate, you can add your favorite websites or have Crate recommend content based on topics you're already sharing on your social media channels.
When you see something you want to share in Crate, you can share it on your social media channels or add it to Buffer.
Try Crate for BufferMural
Another tool we wanted to share this week is Mural.
With Mural, you can create a virtual whiteboard and bring together ideas that you can share with your team in real-time for projects that you are working on.
This way you can keep everything organized and your team will know where projects are at.
Try MuralShorts
The last tool we wanted to share this week is Shorts.
With Shorts, you can easily share your camera roll with your friends or family. If you work with virtual assistants or you have employees working at events to capture content for your social media channels, you can use Shorts to make sure photos and videos are easily assessible.
This can help save your business time and also make it easy for you to know what visual content someone on your team has taken. This way you ensure you have everything you wanted to capture.
Download ShortsWrap-up
That’s it for this week’s episode of Social Chatter.

Welcome @LadyJMarketing !
is this about food? I cant follow the innuendo
@mishner no. Social Chefs is a company where we share recipes for social media success.
as a real life chef this is very confusing
i feel duped
@mishner why would you think that?
do you think pinterest targeting is more sophisticated than fb?
Guide: https://business.pinterest.com/en/pinterest-guides
Instagram?
@uptowngeneve no…still a little inferior but closer than what twitter offers
@ammoshop IG ads are right up there too because of the FB tie in
Okay, this is great because I just starte to beef up my pinterest usage
That’s cause you got two really smart guys in here …
@stanbush thx Stan 🙂
ok thanks @VincentOrleck We would be interested in European vs US experience too, it is very different here…
Topic 3: Instagram testing an algorithmic feed. Is this good or bad for businesses on Instagram?
http://blog.instagram.com/post/141107034797/160315-news
@uptowngeneve great point
@VincentOrleck we actually had very little result for instagram with the fb/insta combo, so we stopped it.
@uptowngeneve can you elaborate more on what you ran?
@uptowngeneve what was the goal of your ad?
@socialchefs goal = likes and interest in shop (aka buying) online or in store
@VincentOrleck For their own benefit – people need to get over it and adapt.
@socialchefs , insta actually consumed more $ than fb, and we get better conversion with fb
Social Warfare: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/social-warfare-plugin/
I’m a graphic designer, so I’m thinking about it in that context.
@benlevermore gotcha…yes def visually appealing and striking images work well
@VincentOrleck Thanks Vincent.
pls pls give a link for info on this. we have a LOT of trouble in images being cropped differently between different social media
ok @VincentOrleck , that’s useful thanks
how do you spell canva?
Need to create and resize images: Try DesignFeed: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/designfeed/
I thought you had to pay for canva at that point

Tools
Tool 1: Crate for Buffer https://www.socialchefs.com/go/crate-for-buffer/
@teamcrate on twitter too 🙂
For anyone using Canva, there are a bunch of keyboard shortcuts available. https://www.socialchefs.com/canva-keyboard-shortcuts-infographic/
Sounds a bit like Buffer with some Feedly features.
what’s the website for Crate?
@benlevermore getcrate.co
https://www.socialchefs.com/go/crate-for-buffer/
@VincentOrleck Thanks!
I follow @socialchefs
@schnellepost thanks!
I don´t follow @VincentOrleck, sorry
He seems to be nice, but I don´t follow people with Snapchat in their profile photo.

TEST….. https://media.giphy.com/media/3oEdvb8F5b16u0okpy/giphy.gif
gifs still dont work 🙁
Hello!!
@LorenaSWooten how do you like blab so far?
yes scary
can also be problematic for business as you may have copyright images on camera roll!
@uptowngeneve true
I wish GIFs would work on blab again. It’s my 3rd language…
If you can control image share IN the iphone before hand, then could be useful.
@Josewats they work on Twitter!
@Josewats you dont even know bro lol
@socialchefs yeah I know…
@VincentOrleck I’m sure! I used GIFs all the time in the early days of blab..
You would have to be really careful or conscious about the images you take!
Rando: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/rando-ios/
@Josewats thats all i would do is hop in blabs and start gif’ing what people were saying hahahaha
shorts doesn´t make much sense to me
@schnellepost its got some specific uses it would seem
why not share photos on facebook ? why use shorts?

we think it is a really untapped tool 🙂
Just move to where you can really measure. Send them toyour websie and have them take action.
@uptowngeneve absolutely
(I mean: europe in our opinion)
I think we do it better than the big brands! (we are a tiny business)
@uptowngeneve i would agree
😀
@uptowngeneve altho there are some big brands doing great things on snapchat
thanks! who?
HUGE!
please explain on demand geo filter….
yes
VERY precise geo filter!
We talked about them here: https://www.socialchefs.com/social-chatter-episode-24/
I don’t see geo filters on my snapchat…..
You may need to copy the URL – clicking it doesn’t seem to work.
what is’t doing is removing the : before // and adding ?ref=blab .. remove and add both… let me try something..
ok, will investigate! thanks
