Welcome to this week’s episode of Social Chatter where we cover the latest social media news from this past week.
Each episode of Social Chatter is available as a blog post or video.
Let’s see what’s cooking in social media this week with your hosts, Christian Karasiewicz and Vincent Orleck!
Watch This Week’s Social Media Updates
Facebook Testing Facebook Topics
Facebook is testing a feature to let users converse around topics and themes.
This is what Facebook Topics look like in your news feed.
Once rolled out, when you click on a topic inside of Facebook, you'll be able to select from a list of other topics and themes.
This feature should allow for people to be able to assign a topic tag to posts and control who can join the conversation using Facebook privacy settings.
Twitter Stickers: A New Way to Add Images to Photos
Also talked about this week is a new way to add images to photos on Twitter.
By adding Twitter stickers, this should allow Twitter to compete more with Snapchat and Facebook who recently purchased Masquerade. Both services give users the ability to add stickers and other visuals to their snaps and posts.
Easily Share Images and Media on Blab
Also this week was an announcement from Blab. They've changed how you can share links when you're hosting your own show.
If you want to share a link to a blog post, Facebook post, tweet or YouTube video, all you have to do is paste in a link during your show and it will show up for all of your viewers.
If you're sharing a video, it expands to play while you're running your Blab.
Blab is already a very useful tool for businesses. Now, you can hold your own Blab and have them center around other content you have already created, such as a video walk-through, Facebook Page post and more!
Instagram Desktop Notifications
Another announcement this week was by Instagram.
They've announced notifications for Instagram desktop users.
While you still can't upload photos and videos to Instagram from a computer, you can at least now get notified.
To see Instagram desktop notifications, simply login to Instagram. You'll now see notifications when you're working on your desktop.
While not a major update, this makes it easier to continue to focus on the work you're doing without constantly interruptions from your mobile device.
Tools
In addition to sharing the latest in social media news from this past week, we also highlighted some great tools and apps to check out.
WPForms
When building out your blog, it is important to have a good contact form.. Not only can your readers message you, but you can also use it to collect other information from them, such as having a specific form for submitting guest posts. Unfortunately, adding this yourself can take a lot of time because they can be complicated to build.
As a business owner, you can set one up using WPForms in just minutes.
This way you won't spend all of your time building your website. Instead, you can focus on the needs of your customers instead.
WPForms starts at just $39 per year. If you're looking for something that integrates with Aweber and other email marketing services, we like Gravity Forms.
Try WPFormsIFTTT
Another tool we really like using is IFTTT.
IFTTT is amazing. It let's you build complex tasks and will then run them for you automatically.
For example, you can have IFTTT save Facebook photos to Dropbox.Try it out.
That's just one example, but there are thousands of other ways to use IFTTT.
Another way to use IFTTT is to use IF by IFTTT. With IF by IFTTT, you can create simple connections between apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more and then run them from your mobile device.
Download IF by IFTTTNom
The last tool we wanted to share this week is Nom.
Nom is similar to Blab in that you can watch live and interactive cooking shows. You can also choose to host your own if you like.
This is yet another way for you to be social and to build deeper relationships with others.
Download NomWrap-up
That’s it for this week’s episode of Social Chatter.
Be sure to tune-in to our next episode on Blab to find out what’s cooking in social media!
If you have any questions about anything mentioned this week, share them with us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or in the comments below.

@KeremYassine welcome!
@KeremYassine welcome!
Hi
How You Doing
what are you guys talking about
Facebook has such awesome reach that using a branded hashtag on Facebook posts can teach your following to recognize and create using the hashtag. I encourage my accounts to use them on Facebook.
@creativeslink thx for the comment!! keep em comin’ 🙂
Topic 2: Twitter testing new ways to add images to photos http://recode.net/2016/03/22/do-you-like-stickers-twitter-wants-to-know/
whats up Cory! thx for joining
@belfair1811 hey Scott thx for hopping in 🙂
As a business, you’ll only put out pics that are ad types -vs- most traction only works for “funny” pics
@CoryHolliman true. It makes me think they could offer this to businesses looking to inject some creativity into their brand.
I put a sticker on a photo once as another way to show that I was the creator of the photo.
@KellyCavanaugh_ watermarking?
Yes exactly.
or share
yes the funny ones they do
Welcome @hmdmounir88 !
@hmdmounir88 welcome!
people dont “like” ads
What????
where is that feature
gimme
desk
yep
I’m such a TARD when it comes to blab
@CoryHolliman nah!
oh hell…this is what I have been waiting for!
It’s about to go down now!
@CoryHolliman it’s pretty slick!
you guys have training on this?
@CoryHolliman training on what? Adding links?
cool
@CoryHolliman 🙂
bar
yep
i cant get the video to play for mor than three seconds
but thats not good
For me, too.
because people can click away from the blab
once you play it i can control the volume
wonder if we can hide the bar
yes
I closed it. Yep.
there is a tool that removes the controls…hummm let me dig
ha split screen Periscope flash back
Haven’t seen/heard a lot of DRM concerns from TeamBlab…so far
vimeo? or screencast?
so when your playing the video is the sound coming through the presenters mic as well? if so that might cause major feed back
@CoryHolliman didn’t seem to be.
@CoryHolliman just ran it earlier with the video. No feedback came through.
I think playing a video is going to kill the feed if you get like 100+ on the live cast
yep
it’s a real RAM-eater on my home machine…with a drop in running long term…
@WBBDaily what type of machine are you running?
maybe they fixed it
lol…7 year old iMac 4 gigs RAM
joelcomm feed yesterday only had 862 people on without video and major delay and people were dropping off
@WBBDaily make sure you don’t have a lot of apps and tabs running. Running on a Mac as well. No issues.
This sounds exciting to me.
1000% more uses now that we can use video
@CoryHolliman ABSOLUTELY!
I know you’re pumped, Cory! 🙂
oh dont get me wrong I’m PUMPED
so if you have 500+ viewers on the blab watching the youtube…will that count as views on youtube? hummmmm
Google is looming in this space as well http://venturebeat.com/2016/03/23/google-is-building-youtube-connect-a-live-streaming-app-to-take-on-periscope/
@WBBDaily yes they are.
oh thats right
hummmmm?
but thay might click through and open it in another window to watch later!!!
@CoryHolliman truth
I muted the video
sorry to make yall think in left field
i was just curious
the smart person would have a clickable overlay on their youtube video
not showing
Yea, it seems like a way to throw off your stats on YouTube.
a running “drop in” tutorial: https://medium.com/@BeautyBubble/beautybubble-on-blab-widget-spice-4cd8fa6f6268#.5u3vraty7
@WBBDaily ty 🙂

@MrSocialCrusher on snapchat
https://www.socialchefs.com/go/social-warfare-plugin/
I’m the co-founder of Social Warfare. I designed and helped “ideate” it and our Developer Nick brought it to life.
social warfare is an amazing plugin
haha! yea, Social Warfare started as a “proof of concept” on dustn.tv
@DustinWStout P.S you have to change your snapchat settings. right now only your friends can snap you. Change it to everyone or just add everyone back 🙂
Yea, I’ll be track-leading at SMMW16 this year.
@AustinIuliano thanks for that.
@DustinWStout welcome
Yea, interesting story about how the name came to be.
https://warfareplugins.com/why-social-warfare/
@DustinWStout for a lot of people social warefare is better than sumome
@DustinWStout hahahhaha.
@AustinIuliano for anyone who doesn’t think it’s better than SumoMe just doesn’t understand what it’s capable of. lol 😉
dude raise your price
@CoryHolliman we will be… lol (#getitnow)
hahahaha
@DustinWStout always be closing
@VincentOrleck lol – seriously though, we had our weekly team meeting and were talking about the price raise.
is there a Tard lesson on warefare?
@DustinWStout can I dislike that?
haha – you’ve got some time @VincentOrleck
yea, sumome charges $20 a month for just one of its features
warfare
@DustinWStout ok good! lol
@CoryHolliman Tard lesson?
@DustinWStout is there a full lesson on what it does?
Topic 4: Instagram adds notifications to the desktop version https://www.facebook.com/socialchefs/posts/1204527669559916
@DustinWStout only single website?
@DustinWStout cool
@ChuckBartok you can buy multi-site licenses. Cost is on a per-install basis.
@CoryHolliman not really. The homepage gives a snapshot of its features. But one of our users did a GREAT review video… let me find it…
@CoryHolliman here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrC26OTSL3I
@VincentOrleck totally agree.
Here’s a review we did as well @DustinWStout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKI45wJROuQ
Call me or email 530-824-3893 or chuck@youcanbuild.it
@socialchefs how did I not know about that video?!
maybe I saw it before and just forgot.
we’ll be compiling a list of go-to review/walkthrough videos soon.
…a new “tool” I’ve been enjoying: https://brave.com/
@DustinWStout awesome! When you publish the list, let us know so that we can share it.
Tool 1: WP Forms https://www.socialchefs.com/go/wpforms/
lol OCD… had to get you both to 100 once I started.
I had no idea Syed built ANOTHER plugin.
here is a crazy thought on the new link thing in blab…what if we add a periscope in here as well as facebook live? talk about a mash up!
@ChuckBartok is that for me?
Didn’t know he had his eyes on the forms arena either.
Yes @DustinWScott
@CoryHolliman yeah im curious what happens w/live stream links…going to have to try it 🙂
Any explicit advantages over Ninja Forms (my personal fav)
Gravity Forms: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/gravityforms/
Yes @DustinWStout
free
HOWEVER, it’s an Add-On modle. If you need more functionality, they have a bunch of add-ons
Social Warfare will be moving to an Add-On model eventually too.
Even if you ARE a designer/coder, theese tools help. lol
I could hardcode a form, but it would take me 20min to get it “RIGHT”
I’d rather build out a form and use a shortcode any time I want to add it to a page.
just saying
BTW this is the most content I have gotten out of any blab to date!
@CoryHolliman thx!!!! honored to hear that
echo
@DustinWStout thanks for sharing!
here we go
build once (quickly) and use over and over with a simple shortcode makes my life SOOOO much easier.
this is going to be nuts
that will be CRAZY
yep
damn
https://www.facebook.com/20531316728/posts/10154009990506729/
periscope
That’s the link to the post.
facebook is such a hater
@CoryHolliman hahaha
oh heck my iTunes opened up
Tool 1: IFTTT Desktop: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/iftt/
I have it now, btw. Lol
so here is the next big question
iOS: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/if-ios/
Android: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/if-android/
can we add a download file, rather then send them to a link?
pdf
here
no not link it but they click and it downloads
Do you have a PDF we can test?
here is an simple pdf: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0B6zWTbf7NKgWfkRQS3Y1dDVTYWZxTjRMMlRRUFIwYVhPb0tYRURabFUtVzVRdG8wcEFxSUU
@CoryHolliman doesn’t seem to like the Google Drive link.
so maybe dropbox
cool thanks for test
Love the Ringling Brothers Circus style logo pic on twitter
Workflow: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/workflow-ios/
Tool 3: Nom Desktop: https://nom.com/
iOS: https://www.socialchefs.com/go/nom-ios/
my brain is exploding with all the info ya’ll are giving us
but love it
But this is food. People will love this.
Also, people have the desire to eat healthier, and they will use this as an outlet.
People want to learn hoe to cook. Right.
@KellyCavanaugh_ yup!
