Social Chatter: Social Media Marketing Talk Show - Episode 289 Facebook Ad Tracking Updates This week, we have Facebook Ad Tracking Updates in Apple iOS 14.5. Apple is rolling out app tracking transparency features. These new settings on your iOS device, will now prompt you to allow app tracking. Keep in mind that this doesn't just impact Facebook Ad tracking. This is a setting in iOS, that will apply to every app that you have on your device. The goal is for greater transparency from apps, and to give users more control over what information apps have about a user and their device. Here is what the app tracking transparency setting looks like. pic.twitter.com/MmWcEE9f3T— Social Chefs (@socialchefs) April 30, 2021 Why Facebook Ad Tracking Updates Matter For Your Business By adding app tracking transparency, it will put some strain on some businesses that relied on using Facebook tracking pixels and Facebook Ads. According to Facebook, "businesses that advertise mobile apps, as well as those that optimize, target, and report on web conversion events from any of our business tools will be affected." "As more people opt out of tracking on iOS 14 devices, ads personalization and performance reporting will be limited for both app and web conversion events." One of the biggest pieces of advice that we can suggest is diversification. It will mean fewer chances to personalize content for users; however, this also presents a great opportunity for your business to further show your customers that you care about them and protect their data. If you're looking to use the Facebook ad tracking updates, available in iOS 14.5, simply update your device under Settings. You can then go into Settings > Privacy > Tracking, and enable app tracking transparency completely, disable it, or set it for each individual app that you have installed on your device. When you then launch an app, you will be prompted to allow tracking. While this seems like extra work, it will benefit users, because they now have more say in terms of apps using their information.
