LinkedIn Live Video Broadcasts

In LinkedIn news, they are rolling out LinkedIn Live.

LinkedIn Live video broadcasts

With LinkedIn Live, people and organizations can broadcast live video to select LinkedIn Groups and people.

For example, LinkedIn is anticipating that LinkedIn Live will be used for covering conferences, product announcements, office hours, graduation and awards ceremonies.

In addition, LinkedIn is rolling out live video support for a host of third-party tools in order to help LinkedIn Live users to create polished live video on their platform.

Right now, these include:

  1. Wirecast
  2. Switcher Studio
  3. Wowza Media Systems
  4. Socialive
  5. Brandlive

They plan to add additional ones over the coming weeks.

Why LinkedIn Live Video Matters For Your Business

As a business owner, LinkedIn seems like just the right platform to use for business.

For example, maybe you accidentally sent a message intended for a customer to the wrong one? Alternatively, what if you accidentally shared your product pricing?

As long as it has been less than 10 minutes since you sent the Facebook Messenger message, you can go in and delete it for everyone.

This way you can save yourself any embarrassment while protecting your business at the same time.

You can read more about LinkedIn Live video broadcasts here.

LinkedIn Group Improvements

Also in LinkedIn news, they are rolling out updates to LinkedIn Groups to include receiving notifications for all group posts, the ability to notify LinkedIn group members when there are important conversations, as well as requiring approval for new posts from members.

LinkedIn is also rolling out group personalities (upload a cover image to your LinkedIn Group).

Why LinkedIn Group Updates Matter For Your Business

For the longest time, businesses have avoided using LinkedIn Groups because they were missing many key features (and even basic ones).

Now that Microsoft owns them, LinkedIn has been rolling out updates rather quickly. This week, they finally added LinkedIn Live and then surprised users with Group updates.

Together, these two enhancements should encourage your business to want to spend more time using LinkedIn Groups.

Not only do they have the backing of Microsoft, but they have the team to help build out the social media platform and to make it even better for you as a business owner.

You can expect these LinkedIn Group updates over the course of 2019.

See When Contact Information Is Used In Facebook Custom Audiences

In Facebook news, you'll see when someone uses your contact information in Facebook custom audiences.

Previously, you would see random Facebook Ads and wonder how you ended up on someone's list.

With an update to the "why am I seeing this" feature on Facebook, whenever someone uses your contact information in their custom audience, you will be able to see this.

Here's a screenshot of what this looks like.

Facebook custom audience transparency

Why Facebook Custom Audience Transparency Matters For Your Business

There is often a lot of misuse with Facebook custom audiences.

That is about to change for businesses.

Starting on February 28, 2019, Facebook will be cracking down on custom audience transparency.

When you upload someone's contact information, Facebook is going to notify users in the "why am I seeing this" button in the feed posts section on Facebook.

You'll be able to see the brand that purchased the ad, areas they targeted, as well as whether the brand or the agency did it.

This is big news and could have even bigger implications.

There are quite a few unethical social media marketers who will use your contact information in their custom audiences. This could be an email from your email list, off of your business card, etc.

Regardless, it's against the law and not allowed.

It will be interesting to see how this impacts these types of social media marketers as well as agencies who misuse your contact information.

In the meantime, if you've been engaging in such practices, it's time to consider making some changes. Right now, Facebook might be more lenience with custom audience transparency, but not so much in the future.

In Testing: Instagram Direct For Desktop

In Instagram news, they are testing Instagram direct messages for desktop.

Why Instagram Direct For Desktop Matters For Your Business

Last week, we talks about how Facebook was merging Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram Direct messages.

If they expand Instagram Direct messages to desktop, chances are, they're doing this as a means to better sync your messages across desktop and mobile on these services.

As a business owner, this is good news for you because you can reduce having to switch from desktop to mobile when you want to send Instagram Direct messages.

This is currently being tested. You can check if you have Instagram Direct messages for desktop simply by logging in to Instagram and then looking for the Direct arrow in the top right of your screen.
