Social Chatter: Social Media Marketing Talk Show - Episode 308 Ray-Ban Stories, Facebook Smart Glasses For Creators This week, we're talking about Ray-Ban Stories, smart glasses from Facebook. You'll now be able to record video using your sunglasses. If this sounds familiar, that's because you can already do this with Snapchat Spectacles. What is interesting about this new product from Facebook, is that they're not branded as a Facebook product. Rather, you're getting a sleek pair sunglasses in the Ray-Ban Wayferers, except they have the ability to record video and snap photos. The only branding for these smart glasses from Facebook is in the packaging and the separate app, called Facebook View, that you'll need to use to import videos and photos that you take with the Ray-Ban Stories sunglasses. Here is a look at Ray-Ban Stories, which will set you back $299, for version 1. #Facebook is set to launch their own smart glasses, in conjunction with @ray_ban, usher in #augmentedreality. Here's a sneak peek.#SocialChatter #SocialMedia #SocialMediaNews #FacebookNews https://t.co/oeEgkyHExq— Social Chefs (@socialchefs) September 8, 2021 Interested in the quality of video using Ray-Ban Stories? Take a look. Here's @karissabe with a deeper dive, and I wholeheartedly agree: https://t.co/G2oHRG6E10 I'd love to see smart glasses from other companies. But even then, I'm not sure I want to live in a world where everyone has cameras on their faces— Devindra Hardawar (@Devindra) September 9, 2021 Specs About Ray-Ban Stories Frame styles: Round and Meteor frames Dual cameras with a small LED light Record video and photos What is the quality of the camera? The dual cameras have 5 megapixel sensors. Video quality: 1,184 x 1,184 pixels at 30 frames per second. Photo quality: 2,592 x 1,944 pixels Battery life: around 3 hours for audio streaming, and about 1 day of taking pictures or just walking around. How Do I Charge Ray-Ban Stories? Your smart glasses can be charged using the included charging case. This will add three days of use to your Stories. Can I Listen to Music or Take Calls with Facebook Smart Glasses? Yes. Your Stories are equipped with small speakers. You can listen to music, podcasts, take calls and more. How Do I Transfer Photos and Videos? To transfer videos and photos from your Ray-Ban Stories, you need to pair them with the Facebook View app. The app is barebones right now, but you can use it to share and listen to videos and photos that you took with your sunglasses. Do Ray-Ban Stories From Facebook Support Augmented Reality? Version 1 of the Ray-Ban Wayfarers do not support augmented reality or AR, but we expect they will in future versions. How Much Will Ray-Ban Stories Cost? You can buy the Stories for $299. Where Can I Buy Ray-Ban Stories Cost? You can buy the Stories directly from Ray-Ban. Why Ray-Ban Stories Matter For Your Business While the quality of photos and videos taken with Facebook's new smart glasses is decent, and they don't support augmented reality yet, it's a huge step forward. If your business has struggled with producing content for Facebook (and likely Instagram or WhatsApp), or even Oculus, you now have a very good tool to help you record moments to share on your Facebook-owned properties to engage with your customers. At $299, you'll be able to quickly capture moments, such as unboxing new products, giving customers a tour around your store, or recording 30 second video clips, such as tips to help your customers. While you need a separate app to transfer and share Ray-Ban Stories media, keep in mind that you can also use them to listen to music, make calls, and more, so they're good for business, but also your downtime. What do you think about Ray-Ban Stories, Facebook's new smart glasses? Do you plan to buy them this holiday season? Let us know in the comments. Other Social Media News Mentioned Here are some additional social media news topics that we covered on our weekly live social media marketing talk show that are worth checking out. Facebook gaming is expanding music options. Post full-width images and video on Twitter. Twitter is growing commerce with a new purchases tab. WhatsApp is testing a beta version for desktop. Conversations Over Social Media Campaigns This week, we talked with Brooke Sellas, who was a previous guest on episode 265 of Social Chatter. You can watch that video here: We talked with her about the importance of focusing on building conversations with customers versus focusing on social media campaigns. Here is what she shared. Why are conversations over campaigns important? Your work with clients focuses on conversation, not campaign. What does that mean? How is this a mindset shift? We really only build trust from consumers as brands if we go into opinions and feelings. Avoid cliches and facts - liking a post, just thanking a user for sharing. Take the conversation further. Why does customer care matter for businesses? Key aspects of this are customer care and social listening, how do you accomplish this? Are there tools that you use or do you dig into research? Go beyond just saying thank you. The deeper we go with disclosures, opinions and feelings, we can build relationships and trust with customers. You can’t pretend to build a relationship with your audience or your customer. Refining your overall strategy What are three things that businesses can do today to refine their strategies from campaigns to customer care? People, not technology, are most critical to meeting the needs of your customers. Customer care happens at every stage of the customer journey. Customer care is the only marketing initiative that supports acquiring and retaining customers. Stop looking at customer care as a cost center, but as the center of the business. Wrap-up To sum it up this week, we discussed Ray-Ban Stories, smart glasses in partnership with Facebook.
