Welcome to this week’s episode of Social Chatter where we cover the latest social media news.
Each episode of Social Chatter is available as a blog post or video.
Let’s see what’s cooking in social media this week with your hosts, Christian Karasiewicz and Vincent Orleck!
Watch This Week’s Social Media Updates
Facebook Launches Local Search Tool to Compete with Yelp! and TripAdvisor
This week, reports surfaced that Facebook is testing a local search tool to compete with Yelp! and TripAdvisor.
According to a Facebook spokesperson, “we're in the early stages of testing a way for people to easily find more Pages for the services they’re interested in.”
Overall, we think this would be a valuable tool for businesses as most businesses maintain their presence on Facebook compared to Yelp! or TripAdvisor.
By having a tool for Facebook's billions of users to connect better through local search, this seems like a win-win for Facebook, their users and businesses invested in Facebook marketing.
Facebook Introduces Transportation to Messenger
Another big announcement from Facebook this week was support for transportation in Facebook Messenger.
This is big news because it makes Facebook Messenger more than just a way to communicate with friends.
We expect to see other tie-ins using Facebook Messenger in the coming year.
Message A Facebook Page Through a Businesses Website
Instead of leaving a businesses website, customers can message them on their Facebook Page without leaving the site they're on.
Here's a short demonstration of this feature.
To get started, simply install the Facebook Page plugin.
See When Someone Types A Facebook Comment
Also this week, Facebook is said to be testing the ability to see when someone is responding to a comment.
This is a feature you often see within WhatsApp.
Right now this new feature is only being tested with a Facebook Profile.
We expect this to rollout to Facebook Pages as well.
This way businesses can maximize the time they spend responding to Facebook Page comments.
Larger Embedded Pins on Pinterest
Pinterest is rolling out larger embeddable pins for website.
This is likely being done to allow for higher resolution mobile devices and screens.
Pinterest Rolling Out Promoted Pins for All US Businesses
One last piece of social media news this week also comes from Pinterest.
They are rolling out promoted pins for all US businesses.
If you haven't yet ventured into advertising on Pinterest, this is a great time to start as there isn't too much competition.
You can read about this announcement here.
Tools
In addition to sharing the latest in social media news from this past week, we also highlighted some great tools and apps to check out.
Tweetdis
Tweetdis is a Twitter tool that makes it easier to include tweetable moments in your blog content.
We would compare it to Social Warfare, although it's not as feature-rich because it only offers the ability to include tweetables in your content while Social Warfare also let's you specify which images you want included when your content is shared on social media.
Narrow
Are you looking to grow your Twitter following?
Narrow is a social media tool that can help!
By developing a very targeted following on Twitter, you can help boost engagement when you tweet new content.
LeadPages Marketing Library
One last tool mentioned on this week's episode of Social Chatter is a new marketing library from LeadPages.
The LeadPages Marketing Library includes a number of free, valuable resources on setting up landing page funnels, Facebook Ads tips, downloadable PDF guides, image libraries and more to help improve your businesses marketing.
Try LeadPages Marketing Library

@SciFiFunk thanks! So glad to have you join. Loved the questinos.
SumoMe has something like this and it’s free if I recall correctly.
It’s late here. See you next time. Happy Christmas. bye.
i like tweetthis-type sharing because it focusses your sharing options on one platform. For small players, allowing people to share across say five platforms means they’ll potentially get little engagement
@BackPorchWriter It’s a freemium plugin – so I’m not sure if that is one of the free options
Tool 2: Narrow https://www.socialchefs.com/go/narrow/
@SciFiFunk Merry Christmas! 🙂
Experiment & test is how one becomes successful in social (& all things digital).
What just happened?
Great blab, but got to run (have a late Friday call).

LeadPages – I’m going to use it for my tea business, my author business, and my podcasting.
glad to represent the sexy industry. the musicians however would consider the Marcom guys far from sexy lol
I’m an author, but I don’t write about tea. I’ve been asked, so maybe I should!
I’ve been following LeadPages for a while. It’s expensive, but when I realized I could use it for multiple things, I was convinced!
@BackPorchWriter my friend Martin is writing a book about tea!
@Ileane Well, he should be a guest on my podcast! Tell him to get in touch via Back Porch Writer. Thanks!
thanks so much for the tips! appreciate your blab.
@BackPorchWriter He has a GofundMe page for his tea book!

@Grizzlysgrowls yes. That too!
@Grizzlysgrowls I subscribed. Is that the same as follow?
@BackPorchWriter Yes! You’re good
Can also do a Follow on Blab itself, of course.
Working Solutions does run a “virtual phone center,” but you have to provide your own fast Internet and a dedicated hard phoneline.
@Grizzlysgrowls do you have a link?

I used to work for the in-office Call Centr they had.

thanks David
You’re welcome. I never worked for their work-from-home section, but I did work in a phone center they owned.
has anyone heard any news about apple musics foray into social with apple connect? I know it’s a stab in the dark but you never know?
Can also look at http://careerstep.com which is a site for training for various work-from-home jobs. Went to school with them for Medical Transcription. But it costs some.

When you’re coming in, you need to select that mike as what you’re going to share.
Helps to make it your Default microphone, so you don’t have to remember every time.
@Grizzlysgrowls good recommendatino!
Are you using Chrome?
Even if you have it selected as default, you can still share a different mike.
You can access it in the settings for Chrome
You have to go under advance settings
Privacey
Content settings
And scroll down to microphone
Yes @socialchefs that is correct
Yes you can set it as your default so whenever you use chrome that will be your default as long as that mic is plugged in
Thank you!
