Audio Rooms Live Video and Video Formats Helping Creators Inclusion, Accessibility and Safety on social media Here's a look at social media in 2021 for each of these, along with links so that you can learn more about each of them. Social Media Adds Audio Rooms One big trend in 2021 was that most social media platforms began to chase audio. Podcasts were not sufficient. Rather, they launched their own audio products to keep users on their platform. Here is a look at what social media platforms like Twitter and Clubhouse and more did to take advantage of audio. Twitter Spaces Facebook Live Audio Rooms Spotify Greenroom, A Clubhouse alternative Live Video and New Video Formats Another emerging trend on social media in 2021 was the push into live video. Specifically, a number of social media platforms began to offer live shopping capabilities, so that you could shop during a live stream. In addition, another emerging trend was that platforms such as Instagram, began to want to be more like TikTok. For example, they even went so far to declare they were no longer just a photo sharing site. One other emerging trend on social media in 2021, was that none of the platforms could settle on whether short or long form video was better. Ideally, we would recommend offering both. Inclusion, Accessibility and Diversity On Social Media In 2021 One other major initiative on social media in 2021 was towards greater inclusivity, accessibility and safety. Social media platforms began to make the content more accessible through automatic subtitles that viewers could turn on or off. In addition, sites also started to provide updates to encourage users to take a break at times. Here's a look at some of the social media news from this past year around this area. Instagram Limits Instagram started adding pronouns, with other social media channels like LinkedIn also offering this option to users.
